Treating your home and lawn for pests is an important decision you have to make and you want to make sure the job is done right the first time. Repeat service calls for perpetual pest issues can cause stress and may also result in additional costs for retreating the site. With that in mind, there are several things you must take into account when you schedule a pest control service to ensure that we at Bates Pest Control are able to do the job to the best of our abilities and achieve an effective extermination rate.

The best option when preparing for a scheduled pest control service is to make certain the space along a room’s baseboards are unobstructed and easily accessible. The best way to lay down an effective liquid treatment for pests such as spiders and roaches is to target the entire perimeter of the room along the baseboards. They prefer to stay out of open places, like the middle of the living room, and travel along the outside part of the room, more often because there are more places to hide between furniture and the like. A gap in the liquid application can reduce the effectiveness of a treatment.

Reducing the amount of clutter in a home before a treatment is another good step to maximizing the effectiveness of a spray treatment. Anything that adds to the amount of surface area insects have to crawl over, under, into and around limits the ability for the liquid treatment to work as effectively.  Again, insects generally prefer spaces that provide them with opportunities to hide and are less likely to stay for long in an open area. The more spaces insects have to avoid contact with the treatment, the less likely it will be for a full eradication.

Removing sources of food is another necessary step to avoiding an unsuccessful spray treatment. If dishes or scraps of food are left out for too long on a regular basis, that provides a food source which can sustain a pest population in spite of pest control treatment. Even if an initial treatment is successful, a second or third infestation can occur from another wave of pests, such as roaches, searching for a regular source of food. Waste around a kitchen trashcan or residual grease around the nooks and crannies of a stovetop can provide the food needed to kick start another infestation.

Cleaning the outside of the house for treatment can be beneficial when spraying for various pests. Easy access to the full perimeter of the house is vital for a termite job. It is necessary to trench around the outside of the house to apply a liquid treatment barrier to prevent termites from entering to your home, so obstacles that may lay against the house, such as firewood piles, must be removed in order to provide treatment. It is a good idea to move items like children’s toys away from the areas to be treated until the applied liquid treatment has had time to dry.

At Bates Pest Control, we want to do the job and we want to do it right the first time. We will work with you to solve your pest control problems. If you can work with us to help you effectively exterminate your problem pests, then we can provide you the best results possible.
